5-Amino 1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule quinolinium salt, not a peptide, that inhibits the enzyme nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT); supplied as 50mg of lyophilized powder.

5-Amino 1MQMetabolic Pathway Peptides

Overview

5-Amino-1-methylquinolinium is a methylated quinoline derivative carrying a permanent positive charge on the ring nitrogen and an amino substituent at position 5. It is a small molecule rather than a peptide, though it is catalogued alongside peptide products owing to its similar lyophilized presentation.

Its molecular target, NNMT, catalyzes transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to nicotinamide, yielding 1-methylnicotinamide and S-adenosylhomocysteine. In vitro, inhibition of this reaction alters intracellular concentrations of nicotinamide and S-adenosylmethionine in cells expressing the enzyme.

Mechanism of Action

Inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, the enzyme that transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to nicotinamide; in vitro this shifts intracellular nicotinamide and S-adenosylmethionine concentrations in enzyme-expressing cells.
