Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a four-residue synthetic peptide corresponding to a defined fragment of the pineal polypeptide preparation Epithalamin. Its low molecular weight and lack of aromatic residues distinguish it structurally from larger peptide hormones. It is supplied as a lyophilized white powder.
In cultured somatic cell lines the peptide is associated with upregulated transcription of TERT, the catalytic subunit of telomerase, and with binding interactions at CpG-rich DNA regions. Each vial contains 40 mg of peptide.
Mechanism of Action
Associated with upregulated TERT transcription, the catalytic subunit of telomerase, in cultured somatic cell lines; interacts with CpG-rich DNA in cell-free binding assays.
