Overview

Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a seven-residue synthetic peptide built on the Tuftsin sequence, a tetrapeptide fragment of the immunoglobulin G heavy chain. The appended Pro-Gly-Pro terminus increases molecular stability against peptidase cleavage relative to unmodified Tuftsin. It is supplied as a lyophilized white powder.

In cell-based assays Selank acts as a positive allosteric modulator at the benzodiazepine site of the GABA-A receptor without full agonist occupancy, inhibits enkephalinase, and upregulates BDNF transcript levels in cultured neural cells. Each vial contains 10 mg of peptide.

Mechanism of Action

Positive allosteric modulation at the benzodiazepine site of the GABA-A receptor without full agonist occupancy; inhibits enkephalinase and upregulates BDNF transcript levels in cultured neural cells.
