Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) based on the ACTH(4-10) fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension, supplied as a lyophilized powder in a 10 mg vial.

SemaxNeuropeptides

Overview

Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a seven-residue analogue of the adrenocorticotropic hormone fragment ACTH(4-10). The Pro-Gly-Pro extension at the C-terminus alters stability toward aminopeptidase cleavage relative to the parent fragment. The material is a lyophilized white powder, soluble in water.

In vitro, Semax interacts with melanocortin receptors MC4 and MC5, inhibits enkephalinase, and upregulates BDNF and NGF transcripts in cultured neural cells. Cell-free assays also describe altered nucleation and elongation kinetics of amyloid beta fibril assembly. Each vial contains 10 mg.

Mechanism of Action

Interacts with melanocortin receptors MC4 and MC5 and inhibits enkephalinase in vitro; upregulates BDNF and NGF transcripts in cultured neural cells and alters amyloid beta fibril assembly kinetics in cell-free systems.
